Past Mentorships
Founded in 2015 by former ALTA Board member Allison M. Charette, ALTA’s Emerging Translator Mentorship Program has supported over 100 translators working from over 30 languages, including Arabic, Bangla, Braj Bhasha, Catalan, Chinese, Dutch, French, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Indonesian, Isan, Japanese, Kannada, Kashmiri, Kazakh, Korean, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Norwegian, Occitan, Panjabi, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Sinhala, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and Uyghur. ALTA mentees have gone on to publish numerous translations and win awards and residencies. Additionally, each year participants in the mentorship program take part in ALTA’s First Look Program, in which participating publishers consider excerpts of their translation projects for possible publication.
