ALTA45

The very concept of the ALTA45 theme “value” is multifold, comprising notions that range from a thing’s perceived importance, esteem, or usefulness; material or monetary worth; the fair return for effort, time, and goods; principles or standards of behavior; morals and ethics. Value suggests the myriad opportunities and challenges facing the literary translation community when defining, determining, and shaping the role of the literary translator in producing translated works, as well as literary translation’s role in the cultural marketplace, the academy, society, and the world writ large.

Over the seven-month duration of virtual conference events, translators and editors from our membership community and beyond convened in a robust yet intimate gathering for panels, roundtables, and readings.

Also featured were ALTA’s annual Awards Ceremony and reception where the winners of the National Translation Awards in Poetry and Prose, Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize, Italian Prose in Translation Award and the Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award are announced; readings from ALTA Travel Fellows and ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship participants; and Declamación, a night of performance featuring the recitation of literary translations from memory (more or less!), among other programs.
