ALTA49 Call for Proposals

ALTA49: “Give and Take” will take place October 21-24, 2026 in Portland, Oregon.

The theme of ALTA49, “Give and Take,” aims to explore the craft and business of translation through the lens of reciprocity and sustainability. When considering translation as a reciprocal give-and-take between languages, cultures, and people, how do we ensure the sustainability of our work as an equitable exchange?

Proposals exploring these interconnected ideas will be accepted for two different kinds of sessions: 5-person panels and workshops organized by 1 or 2 workshop leaders (and open to participation from any conference attendees). Submitters are encouraged to read the ALTA49 proposal guidelines and familiarize themselves with past conferences before developing their proposals.

Submissions will be accepted through June 15 and decisions will be sent out in mid-July, 2026.
