What’s the biggest thing that has come out of your membership with ALTA?

Being named a (virtual!) Travel Fellow in 2020 both introduced me to colleagues with whom I remain close and represented a vote of confidence in my abilities that was very valuable to me as I was starting out. It meant a great deal to me, too, to serve as a Travel Fellowships judge four years later and help draw attention to another group of talented new members.

What keeps you coming back to ALTA?

Publishing is tough. It wouldn’t be surprising if people got competitive or envious in an industry where opportunities can feel so scarce. But in the ALTA community, everyone is warm, supportive, and eager to celebrate one another’s wins. We’re all here to cheer our colleagues on.

What’s your favorite feature of the relaunched ALTA website?

The video library! It’s so nice to be able to catch up or revisit past presentations and virtual conference sessions, and the preview page is a great resource to share with folks who are curious about literary translation.

Do you have a recent publication you’d like to us to know about?

Confidences by Adela Zamudio, translated from Spanish by Laura Nagle, published by Bucknell University Press.

Thank you, Laura!
