Bracken Magazine Submissions Open (Semi-Annually)

Founded in 2016, Bracken is an online journal of poetry and art inspired by the wood and its shadows. We seek poetry that will root, tender and tough, in us, drawing us deeper into our shared human experience. Bracken is green and lush, coarse and delicate, drinks from the earth, and spreads underground, more root than frond.

In addition to original poetry in English, we are interested in publishing contemporary poetry in translation. We like to feature the source-language poem below the translation. Bracken currently has a team of eight editors, led by Kate Deimling and Jed Myers.

We use Submittable and read submissions twice yearly: from March 1 through April 30 (issue published in June) and from October 1 through November 30 (issue published in January). We are able to offer payment of $30 for each poem we publish. When submitting, please ensure that you have permission to publish your translations from the poet or copyright holder and mention this in your cover letter.

We invite you to browse some of our past issues to get a feel for the magazine: https://www.brackenmagazine.com/
