French-American Foundation Translation Prize

Established in 1986, the French-American Foundation’s Translation Prize is the longest-standing prize of its kind, highlighting exceptional French-to-English translations in fiction and nonfiction each year. Over 70 literary works have been awarded the famed Translation Prize since its inception. In 2025, the French-American Foundation celebrated winners Lazer Lederhendler (Fiction, translation of Christophe Bernard’s novel The Hollow Beast [Biblioasis]) and John Lambert (Nonfiction, translation of Emmanuel Carrère’s V13: Chronicle of a Trial [Farrar, Straus & Giroux]).

By elevating translators and their craft, and recognizing publishers who help bring these works to light, the Translation Prize has become a vital element of the intellectual and cultural exchange between France and the United States.

Submissions are now open for literary works of French-to-English translation to be considered for the 40th Annual Translation Prize. Works of fiction and nonfiction, published in the United States between January 1st and December 31st, 2025, are eligible. Deadline to apply is January 12, 2026.
