There are over 800 translators working from dozens of languages in ALTA’s membership. Whether you are looking for a translator for your project or seeking a collaborator or mentor, the Translators Database allows you to learn about and connect with our members. Publishers Database
Members receive access to ALTA’s ever-growing listing of journals and presses that publish works in translation. A limited version is available here to nonmembers. Publishers interested in being featured in this open-access version should consider joining as an Organizational Member or working with ALTA on a sponsorship or advertising opportunity.
Opportunities Listings
ALTA is committed to sharing notice of grants, prizes, residencies, and other submission opportunities for translators. Members receive full access to the Opportunities Listings and nonmembers can view a subset of the listings. Opportunities shared by Organizational Members or partners in sponsorship and advertising are featured in this open-access version.
Awards Database
ALTA has been administering translation awards since 1998 with the inauguration of the National Translation Awards. The awards program has since grown to include six major prizes. Here readers can find a record of all the winners.
Video Library
Since 2020, ALTA’s programming has expanded to include virtual events. Many of these events have been recorded and are now available in our video archive. We are proud to connect the literary translation community around the world.

While ALTA’s primary goal is to cultivate community and offer programs that serve literary translators, we also seek to help that community find the resources they need to meet their professional goals and deepen their work, sustainably. In 2023, ALTA developed a set of guidelines for evaluating literary translation in hiring and promotion decisions.
ALTA unequivocally recommends that institutions of higher education and research treat works of literary translation as an integral part of dossiers, giving them the same weight as analogous publications (articles, creative works, and monographs) for hiring, tenure, promotion, and merit-pay reviews.
