Decoding Poetry Translation Contracts
Decoding Poetry Translation Contracts
As poetry translators know well, navigating the publishing world is difficult—due in no small part to concerns specific to the genre. There are more model contracts out there for fiction translators, more standardized payment structures, and often more payment in general.
This panel aims to address the gap by providing case studies of the many ways in which books of translated poetry can come to be, as well as practical advice for translators of poetry who want to learn to advocate for their manuscripts, their poets, and for themselves. We’ll also discuss acquiring translation rights, project grants and timelines, and more. Panelists are poetry translators, publishers of poetry in translation, and an attorney with the Authors Guild.
