ALTA has been closely following the conversation around the coronavirus and the AWP conference, and after a long conversation among staff and board members, we have decided to withdraw our organizational presence at AWP20.
Given this, we would like to announce the following changes:
- ALTA’s presence at Booth #1444 has been cancelled
- Bookfair Bingo has been cancelled
- The Translator Meet-Up at Guadalajara Grill on March 5 has been cancelled
- The ALTA-sponsored panels “Centering Margins: Literary Translation as Social Activism,” “Try This, You Might Like It: A First Taste of Translation,” and “25 Years of ALTA Fellows” have been cancelled
- The ALTA-sponsored panels “Original Translations” and “Writing Across Multilingual Networks” are still taking place
For the latest information, including updated panel and event cancellations, please see the 2020 AWP Conference Schedule.
The choice of whether or not to attend AWP is a personal one, and if you had been planning on attending, we encourage you to make the best decision for you, your family, and your community.
We will be sad to miss out on connecting with literary translators in San Antonio, and look forward to seeing you all in Kansas City next year.
