Meet ALTA’s Social Media Interns!

We are excited to welcome our social media interns to the ALTA team! They’re a great bunch situated around the globe. Learn more about the people you’ll be reading all the translation news from:

Allison Grimaldi-Donahue is a writer and translator originally from Connecticut.  Her fiction, essays and translations have appeared in The American Reader, The New Inquiry, addddddOmega Metatron, and tNYpress Eeel.  She was awarded an NEA Translation grant to the Vermont Studio Center for her translation work on Davide Orecchio’s novel Città distrutte. In summer 2015 she was a Katherine Bakeless Fellow at the Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference.  Allison is contributing fiction editor at Queen Mob’s Teahouse, an online literary and arts journal.  She earned her BA from St. Michael’s College, an MA from Middlebury College in Italian, and an MA from the University of Toronto in Comparative literature. Allison is also pursuing her MFA in fiction and translation in the low-residency program at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Bologna, Italy.

Carrina LaCorata has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South CarolIMG_1665ina with a major French and a minor in Theater and a Master’s degree from New York University in
Literary Translation: French to English. She is currently working on building her career as a freelance translator (and hopes that literary translation will be a part of that). Carrina is excited to be an intern with ALTA and learn more about the literary translation world.

Alice Osti is a professional Brazilian translator based in Rio de Janeiro. She works mainly Alice Ostifrom English into Brazilian Portuguese. After graduating with degrees in Portuguese and English in Brazil, she moved to Ireland and spent a few amazing years there. Her passion for languages and literature led her to do a Masters in Literary Translation at Trinity College Dublin, which was a very rewarding experience for her.

Rachael Daum is ALTA’s Publicity Manager and is thrilled to be workingme with such talented people on this new project. She earned her Bachelor’s in English: Creative Writing at the University of Rochester, where she also earned an undergraduate certificate in Literary Translation Studies. There, she was lucky enough to participate in two internships with Open Letter Press, where she developed a passion for literary translation and publication. She has done semester-long study abroad programs in Amman, Jordan, and St. Petersburg, Russia, and taught English for a year in Cologne, Germany which is the reigning capital of her heart. Over the summer of 2015 she studied Serbian in Belgrade, Serbia. Her hope is to continue work in translating literature from Russian, German, and Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian. She also writes creatively; her works have appeared in Mt. Island Magazine and the Wolf Skin Journal. Currently she lives in Bloomington, IN, working towards her Master’s in Russian language and literature.
