Calling US residents interested Korean literature! From LTI Korea, the 2021 Korean Literature Review Contest is open for applications.
It’s simple: Just select and review one or more titles from the book list found here by September 26. Entering the contest is simple: Fill out the application found there and send it to the email provided on the website. Entry categories include video, essay, and others (audio, drawings, etc.), so be as creative as you like! You can also apply with more than one book in more than one category.
The winner of this contest is awarded a grand prize of 1,000,000 KRW! Winners of the semi-finals and excellence awards also receive a cash prize. More information here.
Applicants can choose and submit review from a total of ten books, including these three:
1) Ko-eun Yun, The Disaster Tourist, translated by 2018 ALTA Travel Fellow Lizzie Buehler
Winner of the CWA Crime Fiction in Translation Dagger 2021, a prestigious literary crime-writing award hosted by Britain’s Crime Writers’ Association (CWA).
2) Su-ah Bae, Recitation, translated by Deborah Smith
Selected in the Summer Reading List 2017 of World Literature Today.
3) Yi-deum Kim, Hysteria, translated by Jake Levine, Soeun Seo, and Hedgie Choi
The first-ever book to win both the National Translation Award and the Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize given by ALTA! This book won these ALTA awards in 2020.
