The UW Dept. of Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures (MELC), in collaboration with the Mo Habib Memorial Foundation and Deep Vellum Publishing, enthusiastically calls for submissions of one or more collections of Persian poetry (50-250 texts, translated into English) through March 1, 2024. The winning translation will receive a $10,000 cash prize and publication with Deep Vellum!

The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is excited to announce that the submissions portals for the 2024 ALTA awards are open! The following prizes are now accepting submissions:

November 11, 2023—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) announced the winners of the 2023 National Translation Awards (NTA) in Poetry and Prose on November 11th at an Awards Ceremony as part of ALTA’s annual conference, ALTA46: The Place of Translation. The Awards Ceremony featured this year’s prize judges announcing the winners, and short readings from the winning translators.

November 11, 2023–The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is excited to announce that starting in 2024, it will confer a new award: the ALTA First Translation Prize.

November 11, 2023—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award (SUFTA). This prize, which was inaugurated in 2022, is offered by the American Literary Translators Association in conjunction with the Spain-USA Foundation. The award recognizes translations into English of literary prose works written originally by authors of Spanish (Spain) nationality.

November 11, 2023—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize. Starting in 2009, the Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize recognizes the importance of Asian translation for international literature and promotes the translation of Asian works into English.

November 11, 2023—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 Italian Prose in Translation Award. Starting in 2015, the Italian Prose in Translation Award  (IPTA) recognizes the importance of contemporary Italian prose (fiction and literary non-fiction) and promotes the translation of Italian works into English. This prize is awarded annually to a translator of a recent work of Italian prose (fiction or literary non-fiction).

October 11, 2023—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) announced today the shortlists for the 2023 National Translation Awards (NTA) in Poetry and Prose. 2023 marks the 25th year for the NTA, and the 9th year to award separate prizes in poetry and prose.
