Cold Beer, Cold Readings: Call for Translated Scripts
Translators, seize the spotlight in this celebration of international drama! It's karaoke...for theater, as audience members jump in to act out scenes translated by their fellow ALTA attendees. Come to read, or just cheer your friends on. No acting experience required. Just good, clean fun! If you want to contribute a script or excerpt (6-page maximum, translated work only), e-mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org by November 6 indicating how many copies, and we'll take care of the printing--or, you can bring copies along on the night of the event, though make sure you have enough for everyone (i.e., as many as there are characters, plus a couple extra)! This is an off-site conference event being held Friday, November 8 from 8:30-10:30pm at The Spirit Room, 139 State Street in Rochester. Suffering from stage fright? Soothe your nerves with some drink specials, including phenomenal cocktails and punch!
National Endowment for the Arts "Office Hours"
A member of the National Endowment for the Arts Literary Arts team will be available to provide one-on-one guidance to NEA Translation Fellow applicants. Come with questions, either about the program in general or about a specific project. Sign up for a time slot here!
ALTA Conference Wayfinders
If you want to know you'll have a friendly face waiting for you in Rochester, or if you want to be a first-timer's reliable conference guide, join the ALTA Conference Wayfinders! Our conference is growing, and as we see attendance increase, we know you want ALTA42 to be as warm, welcoming, and intimate an experience as we do. Fill out this form by October 21, 2019, and we'll pair up translators coming to the conference for the first time with those who know it best.
ALTA is excited for the return of Flash Sessions for editors and translators at our 42nd annual conference! This year, we are also pleased to announce the introduction of Pitch Sessions for editors and translators! Translators will be paired with a participating editor or publisher from a prominent translation press for a 5-minute meeting to pitch a project. Sign-ups are open via our Google form and will close on
Friday, September 27 deadline extended until Monday, October 21!
