ALTA is the only organization that is devoted exclusively to literary translators. All contributions are an investment in the future of literary translation, which bridges culture, languages, and ideas from around the world.
Consider supporting us through one of our ways to give, including via direct donation, or through our sponsorship or advertising opportunities!
ALTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization as recognized by the IRS. Donations to ALTA are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
Membership dues provide funding for only a portion of the services and activities ALTA undertakes. In order to invest in new initiatives, expand our services, support program development, and grow our endowments, we rely on the donations of members and non-members alike. If you are already a member, please consider a gift in support of ALTA’s future or new initiatives.
You may channel your donation to one of several funds:
The General Operating Fund helps support the day-to-day operations of the organization, including paying for staff and contract employee salaries, mailing services, the annual election, and the annual conference.
Support for the ALTA Endowment provides the means for our organization to sustain growth, expand its outreach, respond to the changing needs of literary translators, and further literary translation in the U.S. and the world.
The ALTA Travel Fellowship Program provides funding for emerging translators to attend an ALTA conference, giving them access to the extensive network of translators, authors, and publishers already working in the field.
ALTA appreciates gifts in any amount in the form of cash, assets such as real estate, stocks, tangible property, and estate gifts (bequests, trusts). Gifts can be made as a one-time donation, recurring, or over a period of time.
Cash contributions may be made online, over the phone at (520) 621-1757, or by mail. Make checks payable to "The American Literary Translators Association," with "Donation" and the name of the fund (General Operating Fund, Endowment, or Travel Fellowship Program) in the memo line, and send to: The American Literary Translators Association, The University of Arizona, Esquire Building #205, 1230 N. Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85721.

Have you ever wished you could do more to support the art of literary translation? You can make a life-changing gift without changing your life by including ALTA in your estate plans. ALTA now has the expertise to work with individuals interested in learning more about planned giving. Even donors of modest means can make a real contribution to ALTA’s future. Supporters can designate ALTA in their will or make ALTA a beneficiary of a portion of their IRA, at no tax cost to them. Donors are also eligible for additional tax benefits beyond those of a one-time donation. And, of course, ALTA can fulfill specific gift wishes and recognize a donor’s significant contribution to ensuring the organization’s future.
Long-term Planning questions can be directed to ALTA President Chenxin Jiang at president@literarytranslators.org.

The ALTA conference is the only conference dedicated exclusively to literary translation. Each year, over 400 translators, publishers, editors, and others working in the field of literary translation from all over the world come to a different city in North America for the largest gathering of translators in the world. We offer many different levels of sponsorship, with different impacts. Institutions, conferences, publishers, cultural agencies, and other member institutions can promote their programs or services by sponsoring the ALTA annual conference. Sponsorship opportunities and benefits are updated annually with conference information here.
Conference sponsorship questions can be directed to Program Director Kelsi Vanada at kelsi@literarytranslators.org.
