ALTA Welcomes New Board President Corine Tachtiris
May 6, 2026—ALTA is pleased to welcome its new Board President, Corine Tachtiris!
In September 2025, a special membership election was conducted to extend the President and Vice-President’s terms in order to ensure continuity during the transition to ALTA’s Executive Director Katrine Øgaard Jensen, who started in the role in April 2025. The ALTA Board Presidency and Vice-Presidency roles normally conduct their handover during the annual ALTA conference, which takes place each autumn. As a result of the special election, President Chenxin Jiang and Vice-President Corine Tachtiris served in their roles for an additional six months, until May 5, 2026.
“I’m exceedingly grateful to Chenxin and Corine for continuing in their roles in this capacity in order to offer their support and expertise as I came into my role as Executive Director,” said Katrine Øgaard Jensen. “This willingness on their part has contributed meaningfully to the stability of the organization during a challenging time not just for ALTA, but for our industry.”
ALTA’s new Board President, Corine Tachtiris, served as Vice-President from 2023-2026, and was an At-Large Board member from 2020-2023. She translates primarily the work of contemporary women authors from Francophone Africa, Canada, and the Caribbean as well as from the Czech Republic. She is Associate Professor of Translation Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She will serve as ALTA President until autumn 2028. Learn more about her on the ALTA website.
“I’m so grateful for Chenxin’s incisive and even-handed leadership steering ALTA through major transitions in the past years,” said Tachtiris. “I look forward to working with staff, the Board, and ALTA’s committees, members, and partners to ensure that our organization doesn’t just survive, but thrives amongst a volatile funding landscape and the increasing threat of AI to our profession.”
ALTA wishes to sincerely thank Chenxin Jiang for her service as President since November 2023. During her term as President, she provided stability to the organization when it experienced disruptions to external funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, transitions of the organization’s Executive Director, and disaffiliation from the University of Arizona. She also oversaw the shift of the popular Pitch Sessions to a membership benefit, and the hosting of the first fully in-person annual conferences since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Preceding her term as President, she served as Vice-President from 2021-2023, and was an At-Large Board member from 2020-2021. She will continue to serve on the ALTA Board until autumn 2027.
“I’m proud of how far we’ve come over the last few years, and ALTA is now in excellent hands under the thoughtful leadership of Corine Tachtiris as well as the ALTA Board,” said Jiang.
