October 26, 2024— The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) announced the winner of the 2024 National Translation Award (NTA) in Prose on October 26th at an Awards Ceremony as part of ALTA’s annual conference, ALTA47: Voices in Translation, in Milwaukee, WI. The conference was held October 25th-28th in Milwaukee, WI. 2024 marks the 26th year for the NTA, and the 10th year to award separate prizes in poetry and prose.

The conference was held October 25th-28th in Milwaukee, WI. 2024 marks the 26th year for the NTA, and the 10th year to award separate prizes in poetry and prose. 

October 26, 2024—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 ALTA First Translation Prize. Currently in its inaugural year, the ALTA First Translation Prize recognizes the work of emerging literary translators and their editors. This annual prize is open to all genres, and awards one debut literary translation from any other language into English published in the previous calendar year. This year’s judges are Esther Allen, Alexa Frank, and Urayoán Noel.

October 26, 2024—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award (SUFTA). This prize, which was inaugurated in 2022, is offered by the American Literary Translators Association in conjunction with the Spain-USA Foundation. The award recognizes translations into English of literary prose works written originally by authors of Spanish (Spain) nationality. The 2024 judges are Jonathan Beutler, Regina Galasso, and Kathleen McNerney.

October 26, 2024—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize. Starting in 2009, the Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize recognizes the importance of Asian translation for international literature and promotes the translation of Asian works into English. Stryk was an internationally acclaimed translator of Japanese and Chinese Zen poetry, a renowned Zen poet himself, and a former professor of English at Northern Illinois University.

Starting in 2015, the Italian Prose in Translation Award (IPTA) recognizes the importance of contemporary Italian prose (fiction and literary non-fiction) and promotes the translation of Italian works into English. This year’s judges are Johanna Bishop, Isabella Corletto, and Diana Thow.

September 12, 2024—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is delighted to announce the 2024 shortlists for the Italian Prose in Translation Award (IPTA), Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize, the Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award (SUFTA), and ALTA First Translation Prize!

The winners of these awards will be announced at ALTA’s annual awards ceremony, which will take place on October 26, 2024 in Milwaukee, WI, as part of ALTA’s annual conference, ALTA47: Voices in Translation.
