Largely overshadowed by the metaphor of space, the relation between translation and time/temporality remains surprisingly untheorized and understudied. Except for some isolated references (Cronin 2003; Baker 2006; Bassnett 2013), there has been no sustained engagement with the issue, let alone an attempt to do what Paul Ricoeur has done for narrative theory in his Temps et récit (1983).

White Pine Press and the Cliff Becker Endowment for the Literary Arts are pleased to announce the winner of the fourth annual Cliff Becker Book Prize in Translation, which publishes one volume of poetry annually, in a bilingual edition.

The winning manuscript is Returnings: Poems of Love and Distance by Spanish poet Rafael Alberti and translated by Carolyn Tipton. It was chosen by poet and translator Christopher Merrill who was this year’s judge. Mr. Merrill says of the winning manuscript:
